About IBCM...
IBCM
International Baptist Church Ministries (IBCM) was founded in 1997, as a
non-profit corporation, whose primary goal was to provide financial support
to English-speaking Baptist churches affiliated with the European Baptist
Convention (now the International Baptist Convention). In the last several
years, IBCM's support has expanded to churches in Latin America and Asia.
IBCM's purpose is "to present the Gospel to all persons with the
goal of bringing them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to form
local congregations for the Christian nurture of those who respond." Through
the financial contributions of members and other mission-minded individuals,
IBCM is able to support these churches and thus continue the teaching of all
who are willing to learn about Christ's redeeming love.
The number of churches IBCM supports grows each year, as does the
amount of contributions received and dispersed. Yet, the percentage of money
spent on IBCM's administrative costs has dropped. IBCM is committed to being
good stewards of God's money and to putting as much as possible into the
mission field.
Board of Directors
IBCM is governed by a Board of Directors. The Directors serve 3-year
terms and may serve only 2 consecutive terms. Three Directors rotate off the
Board each year, with elections of new Board Members held at IBCM's Annual
Meeting. If you are interested in serving on the Board or suggesting a candidate
to the Nominating Committee, please email IBCM at
info@ibcmworld.org. Please note that all
Board Nominees must be current IBCM Members.
History
IBCM began as an idea in
the mind of Cary Quillin, a Texas attorney and a bi-vocational pastor
of the International Baptist Church of Zurich, Switzerland during his earthly
ministry. He asked a CPA
friend in Texas, Randy Stevens, to help file the papers for a religious
organization, which would assist Baptist churches in Europe. Cary and Randy
wrote the Articles of Incorporation and Randy filed them with the Texas
Secretary of State. At the suggestion of Dr. James Heflin, General Secretary of
the European Baptist Convention, Dr. Charles McIlveene, Dr. Larry J. Jones and
Mrs. H.C. (Ruth) Bryson were named as Texas directors.
The Rudy Oswalds of Florida,
elected later as officers, had also expressed interest. International
Baptist Church Ministries was approved on November 3, 1997 as a non-profit
corporation and given charter number 01466023.
To get the corporation functioning, a meeting was held
October 22, 1998 in Garland, Texas with the three directors present. Bylaws,
qualifications and application for membership were adopted and officers
elected.
The first annual meeting of IBCM was on January 16,
1999 in Richardson, Texas. The four officers and three directors were
present, plus seven guests. Charter memberships were authorized through July
31, 1999 and the seven guests plus the officers and directors became the
first of 38 charter members.
Officers for 1999 were elected and a bank account was
authorized with paid membership dues at Bank of America because the bank had
branches in both Texas and Florida. A loan for $2,500 was authorized to pay
for start-up expenses of the corporation. An attorney, Brett Flagg, was
hired to help file papers with the IRS to obtain tax-exempt status.
Application papers were filed in March 1999 and the IRS granted the
corporation tax-exempt status on August 27, 1999. The corporation has begun
receiving gifts and making disbursements.
While founding members Cary Quillin and Dr. Charles
McIlveene have gone onto their Heaven home, IBCM continues to honor their
legacy, their vision that IBCM would seek to share the Gospel throughout the
world.
Future Goals
IBCM continues to strive towards growth in churches/ministries served,
toward growth in membership, and toward growth in donations received, all to the
purpose of reaching more people for Christ. We are making a difference in
churches around the world. Join us on this mission!
